ONE NEW FACE JOIN THE AIGA PORTLAND CHAPTER BOARD

After a rigorous review of nominees last week, the Portland chapter welcomed Billy Huys and Shona Lepis to the board. Lisa Holmes was also reelected to continue her great work as current and continuing Sustainability Chair. These highly accomplished design professionals will serve a three-year term beginning July 1st, 2010.

“I’m passionate about design and I’m proud to be part of such a historic design association. I believe the Portland AIGA chapter provides great value by helping to build community – providing inspiration, education and advocacy for design,” says Communications Chair Lepis.

In addition to serving as Communications Chair, Lepis (http://twitter.com/eyedesignstudio) is Owner and Principal Designer at Eye Design Studio (http://www.eyedesignstudio.com), as well as a founding member and art director at Branding Salon (http://brandingsalon.com) – an international collective of creative women who shape small brands for big success.

Lisa Holmes, current and continuing Sustainability Chair, is Principal at Yulan Studio (http://www.yulanstudio.com/index.php) – a marketing communications firm specializing in web, interactive and print. She has worked as senior designer for a design studio, a multimedia programmer, a corporate art director and ultimately, as co-founder of her own firm.

Billy Huys (http://twitter.com/brandedbyhuys), Associate Creative Director at The New Group (http://www.thenewgroup.com), is the Sponsorship Chair. Previously, he was a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala, Art Director for Agency.com, and active member of the AIGA Denver chapter.

“I hope to be able to continue the great work of the previous board, and to develop new relationships that will continue to grow what our chapter is able to do here in Portland and on the national level. That – and also to help create a kick-ass, secret handshake for the PDX chapter,” says Billy – with a hint of a grin.

Joaquin Lippincott will serve as the new board president for 2010-2011. He has been a board member since 2008.

“I decided to seek a position on the AIGA Portland board because I believe in the power and value of design. The Portland community is passionate and creative, and is doing some amazing work. During my tenure I hope to raise the profile of that work, both locally and nationally. I also plan to support the existing efforts of creative groups here in Portland and to provide a vehicle by which design professionals can give back to their community. I believe in the power of AIGA as cohesive national organization and truly feel it fills a unique role in bringing our profession together,” explains Joaquin.

Retiring from the board is President Johnny Levenson, Co-VP Eric Hillerns and Communications Chair Dave Seldon. AIGA remains immensely grateful for their passionate and thoughtful contributions, strong leadership, and good spirits over the years.
