Brain Food Lab at Museum of Contemporary Craft

Sun, December 18, 2011
2:00am - 4:00am
Museum of Contemporary Craft
724 Northwest Davis Street
Portland, OR 97209

AIGA Portland and The Right Brain Initiative have paired up to create a hands-on creative experience for kids, Brain Food Lab. The event is in concert with the Museum of Contemporary Craft’s exhibition, Studio H: Design. Build. Transform. Together, you and your kids help collectively build the ultimate prototype for a town using provided art supplies, found materials and most importantly, your imaginations.

Visit the museum and learn how the creative process can transform learning, develop critical thinking skills, and connect students to their environment in exciting and bold ways. Then head upstairs to the Brain Food Lab for a real-life experiment in city creation.

This project is inspired by Brain Food, which is a set of DIY activities conceived by The Right Brain Initiative. Brain Food activities integrate an artistic approach with other school subject areas, modeling the kind of learning that Right Brain brings to over 11,000 students and nearly 600 teachers in the Portland metropolitan region. The Right Brain Initiative is a local arts education partnership to engage children and adults in imaginative and exploratory learning experiences.

AIGA Portland, the local professional association for design, and The Right Brain Initiative are now joined in a unique partnership to expand the Brain Food activities into a physical card deck that will be available in 2012 to Right Brain teachers and on sale to the public.

The Brain Food Lab will be open during regular Museum hours December 3rd, 2011 – February 25, 2012.

AIGA Portland designers will help facilitate the Brain Food Lab from from 2-4pm: Dec 17th, Jan 7th, Jan 21st, Feb 4th, and Feb 18th.
