Lisa Holmes is a co-founder and art director of
Yulan Studio, a marketing communications firm specializing in web, interactive and print. With over 25 years of experience, Lisa designed print materials for several years before becoming obsessed with new media. Lisa joined the AIGA Portland board in 2007 as Secretary, then in 2008, formed the chapter's sustainability initiative and served as Sustainability Chair from 2008-2011, leading the sustainability committee and creating several event series. In 2011, she became President of the chapter.
Angela Reat is an accomplished graphic designer with 14 years of experience in the U.S. and abroad. She currently specializes in identity and branding for the food, beverage and hospitality industries. After graduating from San Francisco State University, her wealth of creative experience comes from working with clients such as Disney in LA, The United Nations in Rome, and as an Art Director for the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). However, it is the small projects that often capture the heart, and Angela has had the pleasure of helping numerous individuals launch their dream companies – clients with stringent budgets but lots of enthusiasm.
Angela is currently active in branding and peripherals for the nationally recognized wine and restaurant arena in Portland. It is a vibrant and competitive scene in which innovation and craft walk hand in hand. Her approach, and her results, are in-sync with this industry’s marriage of tradition and creativity. It gives her great pleasure to represent her clients’ products in a striking and memorable style.
Yvonne is an award winning designer/director/artist with 15+ years experience with print and online design. Doing business as
Creativegirl, her client work ranges from local agencies and entrepreneur's to companies like DreamWorks and Snapfish. She is an active advocate of independent designers/artists and since 2005 has devoted her
blog towards promoting them. When she's not playing the role of Art Director you can find her at Portland State University where she teaches as an adjunct professor.
Erik Ratcliffe, Treasurer
Erik Ratcliffe started adulthood in the civil engineering industry as a draftsman and a site designer; after a decade or so of that, he broke camp and set himself up in the Linux industry where he did all things technical, co-authored a very long Linux book, and followed the dot com wave to stock-option-millionaire status only to lose it all when the market crashed in the early 2000s (not his fault). He walked away from Linux a few years later and entered the University of Utah as a graphic design major. Immediately after graduation, he and his wife packed up their cats and traded arid Zion for damp Portland. Since moving to Stumptown, Erik has kept busy with AIGA Portland as a general purpose volunteer, a dMob greeter, a Designspeaks event co-chair, and is now the Portland chapter Treasurer. Erik keeps AIGA Portland’s finances in order as well as inspiring and getting inspired by the wonderful design community in and around Portland. He spends the rest of his time working as a front-end web developer/designer at tenfour agency and bailing out his basement.
Amie Champagne, Volunteer Chair
Amie Champagne loves writing and design. She received a BA in English from the University of Oregon and a degree in Graphic Design from Portland State University. She was at Johnson & Wolverton for ten years before joining Nike in 2005. Amie currently works as a Writer for Nike's Brand Design team. A collaborative internship at J&W through Portland State and AIGA launched her career; she's looking forward to giving something back to the design community.
Nicole Conant, Education Chair
Nicole is a designer and maker in Portland, Oregon. When not generating creative and sustainable solutions for the ODS Companies design team, she teaches Communication Design at Pacific Northwest College of Art where she can share her knowledge and passion for typography, concept and inspirational thinking. She holds a Bachelor of Art in Art from Idaho State University and a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design from The Art Institute of Portland. Nicole is excited to be a voice for students on the board, and to help connect them with the variety of opportunities AIGA can provide.
Melissa Delzio is a freelance graphic designer and creative adventurer who occasionally goes by
Meldel. She has over seven years of experience producing print and web graphics for international and local consumer brands alike. Professionally, Melissa strives to evolve the greater creative community she is a part of through volunteer work with
p:ear, and AIGA Portland. Her role(s) within AIGA Portland and other organizations have helped strengthen the local Portland design scene one glass of wine at a time.
In 2008, Melissa founded a book project that promotes design and storytelling on the topic of Portland. OUR PORTLAND STORY is a project that sought submissions of short stories from average Portlanders describing one thing they love about Portland, and paired those stories with different local designers who graphically bring the tale to life on the page. Altogether, the book creates a cross-section of community views and values told through personal stories and graphics. Our Portland Story launched its first book in September of 2010. Marisa Green is a freelance designer, illustrator and paper artist with over nine years of experience in print, web and interactive design created for a varying client base, big and small. In 2001 she earned a BFA in Communication Design from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design—the nation’s first independent public arts college. With a deeply rooted passion for accessible arts, Marisa continues to develop and support initiatives that strengthen our community. She has been an active PR volunteer for Art on Alberta, she co-founded Portland Paper City, a community paper art project inspired by Portland and she currently enjoys serving on the board of AIGA Portland.
Billy Huys, Sponsorship Chair
Billy Huys has been a designer for almost two decades, and received his BFA in Graphic Design from Indiana University. He cut his interactive teeth as an Art Director for Agency.com’s Vail office in the late 90’s while also becoming an active member of the AIGA Denver chapter. Somehow — after guiding snowmobiles in the Rockies, serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala, building web sites and leading volcano treks in his spare time — Billy landed in Portland to continue his design career. He is currently an Art Director at ZAAZ, and is excited about the opportunity to serve as Sponsorship Chair for AIGA Portland.
Tiffany Jennings is a Digital Zookeeper at Vitamin T, a division of Aquent. Though she manages social media for the brand nationally her ties (and love) for the Portland creative community are deep. Previously a Creative Recruiter with 9 years of experience helping Portlanders by being a resource for their job search makes her job that much more enjoyable. Beyond the many professional partnerships she's made in Portland many of them are now her friends and has driven her to be a part of AIGA.
Over the past 10 years in the creative industry, Martha has helped clients from overly-starched combover types to patchouli BabyBjörn lovers achieve their communication goals online and off. For the past 3 years she has been an independent, enjoying the freedom of working with clients and collaborating with agencies that are trying to make the world a better place. She appreciates participating in the design community outside agency walls, and when not at her studio adjacent to Nemo Design, she is often hopping around on her bike and learning a thing or two about a thing or two.
Mikey Mann spent 3 years designing in LA before deciding to make the move to Portland. His love for his community and design drives him to be a better citizen and designer. Being on the Board of AIGA Portland provides him the opportunity to help make Portland the hub for inspired design.
Mikey received his BFA in Visual Communication from Ball State University. Following his life long goal, he immediately packed up and drove across country to the magical land of Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, he scored an internship with AIGA Medalist, April Greiman. He then went on to his first official design job at Simon + Associates Advertising. Now, Mikey is here with us in Portland and looks forward to moving the design community forward.
